What Is a BASIX Certificate?
As mentioned, BASIX certificates were initiated by the NSW government in 2004 as a means of helping to reduce the amount of water and energy used in residential dwellings. Any new home, addition, or alteration must meet certain predetermined scores for energy and water consumption as well as for maximum heating and cooling loads. The Department of Planning and Infrastructure determines these target scores and they vary depending upon your current climate zone. To obtain your certificate, you must engage the services of an accredited sustainability assessor such as Chapman Environmental Services. How We Conduct Assessment for Your BASIX Certification
As a qualified BASIX assessor, we must have access to a set of floor plans for your existing home as well as proposed plans for any additions. With the plans, we can use the BASIX tool to determine whether or not your home is compliant with the latest standards. The BASIX tool examines items such as the type of insulation used, the type of hot water system, heating and cooling systems, ventilation, and more. The dwelling must meet the targets set forth for energy and water use as well as heating and cooling loads. If the home does not meet the standards, we will recommend how compliance can be achieved.
